Kids love fancy dress and no birthday or Halloween is complete without a special costume. Girls love to be princesses and boys want to be an astronaut.

That may actually be a generalization as lots of girls are now swaying towards the astronaut but, not many boys want to be Snow White.

The trouble with the kids nowadays is that the home made costumes that lots of us wore as we grew up are no longer cool! I think that means if you don’t lay out hard cash then you are somehow cheating.

      Don’t do a theme.
      Some people may have already bought their costume, or had a costume in mind, and when you make a theme, they have to go out and buy a whole new costume.
      Also, many people will probably end up wearing the same costume if you make it a theme

    I’ll be right around 32 weeks pregnant on Halloween this year and I am trying to come up with a creative costume to wear. My husband and I have a lot of fun on Halloween since we get about 350 trick-or-treaters at our house.       I saw a lady wear one of the big Christmas pudding outfits when she was expecting……not sure where she got it but it did cover up her bump nicely.

      Or you could wear one of those under construction t.shirts and then add in a hard hat and jeans etc like a builder would wear.

Guys in dresses and girls in suits are always fun, and it’s easy to go to the Salvation Army for clothes or ask your relatives for old clothes. I bet if you asked your Grandma (or Mom and Dad) to clean out their closet, you could whip up something unusual in no time.

      Get some pink sweatpants, a matching pink sweatshirt (just a plain hoodie) and a pink baseball cap. Then, when you get home try to find some cardboard. Make a table (or a chair) out of the cardboard that is big enough to glue on your baseball cap, but not so big that it will like fall over or fall off.

      You can be a piece of gum stuck under a table/chair!

      This is what I was in 8th grade. I also got extra candy because people thought it was clever. :-D

      Another variation on the t-shirt idea is just to write the word “costume” on it.

      You could put together a pirate or gypsy costume pretty easily as well. Have your friends go out on a scavenger hunt on Halloween with disposable cameras, and you each have to have your picture taken with certain items on the list, such as different types of costumes, candy, a specific looking jack-o-lantern, etc…

      Cat Burglar: Wear black clothes, black stocking cap, ski mask or Lone Ranger-style mask. Carry a bag with some stuffed cats peeking out.

      (This involves some sewing… check the simplicity patterns for an overcoat for him and a billowing skirt with blouse and corset for you. Finish off with some fake blood, a top hat and cane for him, do the up-do to match the period and you’re good to go)
      Punkrocker and 80′s chick…(fun one – you get to tease your hair huge, wear leg warmers, fishnets and torn, flashdance-like clothes – he gets to don a leather jacket, torn shirt, fake piercings and tattoos and a mohawk)

    Halloween is right around the corner, especially for those who are in college.

      My fiance and I did this last year. She dressed up like an egg (poster board with a yoke in the middle) and i dressed up like a devil (red sweats and some face paint and horns for at wal-mart) and together we were Deviled Eggs!

      Go as a half man/half woman.

      Get a pair of jeans, a t-shirt or polo shirt, a skirt, and a blouse. Cut them all in half. Sew the blouse and the polo shirt together and sew the jeans to the skirt. It will definitely be a conversation starter.

      If you want, cut a baseball hat in half too and pin it to your hair. You can get cute and draw facial hair on half your face and wear makeup on the other half.

      Cat: wear all black pin a tail on (cut up another shirt for a tail). Then put a little nose and kitty whiskers using eyeliner. and there u go! :) Or if u have cat ears u could use those. Same with bunny ears just wear all white. So look around at your old costumes and put something together with those! Or just wear all black and orange and go as Halloween itself! :)

    What are some fun ideas for a Halloween costume party for girls ages 9-11?
    I was thinking a haunted house in our basement would be a bit fun, but I don’t want it to be too scary! I also don’t want it to be too lame. What are some other ideas though for this age group of girls? They will only go through the haunted basement once, you know and trick or treating for just a short time as well. Then what should I have planned for them. There will be 7 girls at my home!

    fun halloween costume for teen?
    I need to think of a creative idea for halloween. I’m a young teen, so nothing too sexy. My friend and I were going to be the same thing or have coordinating costumes. I need ideas!! :0(

      I’m being a referee, or if you want to do group costumes I saw a crayola box, like everyone is a different color. I thought it was really cute! Or, something cute, like a cat. Or, I remember my friend Brittany was Superwoman and that was really popular with the boys haha.
